Show Notes:

  • Relate to our wives
    • Ephesians 5:25-33 — sacrifice for your wife
      • 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. 27He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless. 28In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church,30since we are members of His body. 31For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. 32This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband.
    • 1 Peter 3:7 — live with your wife in understanding
      • 7Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives with an understanding of their weaker nature yet showing them honor as coheirs of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.
    • Colossians 1:9-14 — Pray with your wife for her spiritual growth
      • 9For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, 10so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God.11May you be strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for all endurance and patience, with joy12giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light. 13He has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of the Son He loves. 14We have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, in Him.
  • Engage with our children
    • Proverbs 22:6 — teach your children according to their individual character
      • 6Teach a youth about the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
    • Deuteronomy 11:18-19 — teach always during typical daily life
      • 18“Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads. 19Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
    • Joshua 4:21-24 — don’t abdicate spiritual growth
      • 21and he said to the Israelites, “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones? ’ 22you should tell your children, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ 23For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over. 24This is so that all the people of the earth may know that the Lord’s hand is mighty, and so that you may always fear the Lord your God.”
  • Accept our responsibilities
    • 1 Corinthians 13:11 — be a man, put aside childish ways, unique in our society today
      • 11When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things.
    • Ezra 10:4 — be strong and take action
      • 4Get up, for this matter is your responsibility, and we support you. Be strong and take action!
    • Genesis 3:11-12 — don’t shift the blame
      • 11Then He asked, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from? ” 12Then the man replied, “The woman You gave to be with me — she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate.”
  • Lead our families
    • 1 Corinthians 11:3 — follow Jesus to be head of the home
      • 3But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of Christ.
    • Joshua 25:15 — commit to worship the Lord
      • 15But if it doesn’t please you to worship Yahweh, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.”
    • Matthew 20:26-28 — lead by serving
      • 26It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; 28just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life — a ransom for many.”
